Papa John Phillips
John Edmund Andrews Phillips
August 30, 1935 - March 18. 2001
Papa John Phillips has joined fellow band member Cass Elliot in the great beyond. Thanks to our Morbid Curiosity sources, we found out that Papa John's funeral, a Roman Catholic service, was held on, March 24, 2001  at 1pm at the Palm Springs Mortuary in Cathedral City. His body will be entombed in the adjacent PalmSprings Mausoleum.  The service is open to the public.
He had a long history of substance abuse, which wreaked havoc on his body and led to a liver transplant in 1992. Prior to that in the 1980's, he claimed to have finally kicked his drug and booze habit, following a court-ordered rehab stint.  Since the liver transplant his health was never the same. He suffered a series of ailments which required hospitalization. Just when doctors believed he was making a comeback health wise, he took a turn for the worse.
He succumbed to heart failure at a Los Angeles hospital Sunday morning (March 18th). His family including his three daughters, Mackenzie, Chynna and Bijou,  were with him when he died. He was 65.
